Cheeni kum

.

Balki’s (remember ad for Idea Cellular, with Illayaraaja’s Nuagua Nayana song) Cheeni Kum has just four songs composed by Illayaraaja. The songs have Raaja’s midas touch. The original Tamil tunes are adapted for Hindi and background score looks mesmerizing to me. Find more at Cheeni Kum.

Update : Finally happen to hear the songs. As Prabhu points out  it would be better if the original interludes were retained as is but none the less the album is a stunner. I wish people up north appreciate the genius called Illayaraaja.

Chandru.I can’t tell how many times I tune to MTV to get a glimpse of Raaja’s work. The sad thing is cheeni kum is not promoted that seriously. Every time I get to hear that nauseating voice of Himesh and others….

Yeah. I was surprised when I heard the songs on the TV. Baalki, the director (big shot advertising guy) is a Raaja fanatic. He’s used a lot of Raaja songs in his ads – Kissan Fruit Jam, Rejoice shampoo among others.

Srini and Sathish. Even I am planning to watch, just because of Illayaraja. This would be first hindi movie that I will watch in the big screen.

3 Songs in the movie – All reworks of great Raaja classics :

    1. Cheeni Kum
Mandram Vandha from Mouna Raagam (Why!! Why did they have to redo this song in Hindi…)

    2. Baatein Hawa
Kuzhaludhum Kannanukku from Mella Thirandhadhu Kadavu

    3. Jaane Do Na
Jotheyalli Jothi Jotheyalli from Geeta (a kannaqda film). See :

Hardcore Raaja fans will be familiar with Vizhiyile Mani from Nooravadhu Naal, which was a rework of the same.

Kamal, that was one awesome song. I too liked it from Yuvan. But the there is one folk song in the movie, that was not done as rustic as raaja would have done. Yuvan has a long way to go in that aspect.

    It’s a Mounnaragam tune.
