Opinions on India

• I do not know any editor in India who is well read
• Isn’t it time for a anti-war correspondent, who can take the glamour out of war and suggest peace solutions?
• There is still no dalit news reader on any television channels
• India’s N-weapons buy insurance not against Pakistan alone but also China. They cancel outright war
• In closed polities like China, acting on policy is brutally simple, they simply displace the poor. We can’t do that
• Every Japanese doesn’t spend his Saturday evenings designing circuits, yet they are thought of as clever. Guess it is our time now
• I wish Osama had found a less evil way of doing in one morning what Indian diplomacy failed to do in two generations
• Americans like India. The more they see it, the more they like it. Both are large messy, noisy democracies with a commitment to tolerance
• Giving rich farmers free electricity is not a shock absorber, It is a bribe for votes. It only means the poor get less attention and resources
• In my view, the world is very simple. Wealth is going to go those countries, which get more of their people connected to the flat world platform
• India and China are on the super highways. But there is a political bump ahead for China. The India road seems smooth. Or is it a mirage?
• Mother India has been transformed into Miss India. Is this freedom from cultural tyranny or attack on identity
• Our democratic process is far from participatory, it is elitist
• The women standing for panchayat elections are often proxies. But not always. Even when they are, they’re learning to contest in their own right
• Model Nafisa Joseph’s death got extensive coverage. But the suicide by thousands of farmers barley got a mention
• While the rich get loans at 6 per cent to buy a Merc, the farmers pay twice that rate for a tractor.

Finally

• In 1999 someone asked Sonia if he could tell her a joke. “Is it about me” She asked. It wasn’t. But she has come a long way since

    Venkat.

Media is the culprit. In recent bomb blast incident CNN-IBN was proud of it self that the world saw mumbai blast through CCN-IBN. The irony is Times Now ad. They featured a snap shot featuring CNN telecasting bomb blast by taking the feed from Times Now. Holy crap.

Damn right they are true. Especially “Mother India has been transformed into Miss India. Is this freedom from cultural tyranny or attack on identity”.

I really hate what is happening to India, especially in metro’s.

These snippets are from Outlooks tenth aniversay issue. They still hold true.
