Dasavatharam
![]()
As they say a bad critique should make an artist skip only his breakfast. There are quite few bad critique on the movie Dasavatharam which may make Kamal to loose his lunch and dinner. Dasavatharam was an entertaining movie in parts and the bad makeup spoils the rest.
Cinema is a visual medium and the visuals are the ones that’s going to stick in viewers mind, not the hours spent to get the makeup done and logistics behind it. Most of the makeup seemed imperfect and comes up as an eyesore. This spoils the fun.
I wonder why Himesh scored the music, is it to get all Indian appeal or for the Avatar Singh? I badly miss Illayaraja here. Devi sri prasad’s background score is rash and doesn’t lead you into the movie. Screenplay of movie was good and dialogues were good too.
Finally, Kamal would have made a big difference if the heroine’s character had been etched more intellectual. I hate to see women being dumb. Finally less said about the scientific facts used in the movie, the better it is….
Photography inside temples

Natarajar Kovil @ Chidambaram
A small ply card welcomes you Natarajar kovil at Chidambaram. It reads “photography not allowed inside the temple, if caught then camera and film will be confiscated”. Other temples at least allow photography inside the campus and ban only in the inner sanctum.
I strongly want photography to be allowed inside the temples, sanctum included. To me it makes no sense to ban photography inside the temple.
- Photography will not reduce the purity of temple premise
- Photography will increase the popularity of the temple
- People will get to know more about the temples by looking at the photographs
- People can cherish their wonderful moments for time infinity
- Temples provide ample photographic opportunity and it should be there for everybody’s taking
- Temples are so rich in art, it is impossible to retain details in ones brain alone, photography solves the problem
- How different is painting of temples/mulavar different from photography, Not much according to me
- And finally aren’t the temples the public place ? Photography in public place should be birth right.

Design & Happiness

I get happiness when using the following the reason being way they are designed. The list is not in any particular order. These are things that popped up immediately.
Appreciating photographs
At times I wonder why there are no comments on my flickr photos. The reason is in fact easy to figure out. Unless I am exceptionally good at photography I cannot expect comments/critiques on my work, unless I reciprocate the same to others. For this I need to build a good community of photographers by commenting on their works or participating in discussion etc. Unless I do this there is no way that someone will comment/critique on my work.
Rama Setu. Intelligent design?

The Centre today withdrew from the Supreme Court its two affidavits, including the controversial one filed by the ASI claiming there was no historical or scientific evidence to establish existence of Lord Ram and Rama Setu as a man-made bridge. More
Why can’t the believers come and prove their point in court? Did they fear that they may loose the their stand and will get into a situation similar to the one happened for the supporters of intelligent design? Ramayana is just a mythology. To me the construction of bridge itself contradicts the nature of omnipotent Ram. Why did Ram need to get involved in building the bridge which would take enormous energy and time to construct rather just appearing on the other side of lanka or just wish Sita to appear beside him ?
The BJP and VHP should stop the nonsense that they have just raked and allow the mega project to continue. It is irony that BJP/VHP thinks that projects hurts the sentiments of Hindus but failed to realise that same happened for muslims when Babri masjid was destroyed.
But I would have loved to know what the wise heads at supreme court would have done if the case was not withdrawn?
Ban corporal punishment
Indian government should ban corporal punishment in school. Punishing students at school will bring short term behavioral change and probably leave them scared for the rest of life.
Stereotyping Tamilian
.

Original photograph by Sathiyan
A typical tamilan (non tambram) is stereotyped as being black in color, having pot belly and scrambled hair. The recent example can be seen from the ITC’s Bingo advertisement.
The color of Black is so powerful that almost all actors have used to evoke sympathy from the audience. Rajini in particular had this color his trump card. When he had met so much success with the color black I am surprised to see, why is he moving away from “pichai karrupay” to “chekka sivapay” to “vellai tamilan” .
For me the average is tamilan is like the one seen in the photograph above. Colors should not matter.
