What we call the news!
What if SUN Network takes over Hindu ?
.
There is this exclusive speculation that going rounds that says Sun network is eyeing for a stake at Hindu. Exclusive news from Churumuri
What if this news is actually true ?
Well Sun’s Tamil paper Dinakaran just turns out to be the one with maximum number of circulation according to recent ABC survey. This may give lot of confidence to Sun to add lot of freebies to be distributed with Hindu to prevent people migrating to other papers like Indian Express or Deccan Chronicle. In the initial days, there will be no need for me buy my toiletries, I will get free shampoo, soaps etc. Then one can see full blown posters heroins and other masala photos for the very first time in Hindu. This will turn Hindu to be Times of India of south with little bit of Tamil touch, meaning we will not see pencil thin models, but ones who are really healthy.
Kalaingar may actually start writing his letters in English. That’s one thing people want to read definitely.

Cauvery verdict
.

Bangalore is fast becoming an insecure place to live. It is a surprise that television channels like Times Now running a call in program, SMS program on sensitive issues like this one immediately after the tabling of the report. Why the hell do they have to ask questions which triggers hatredness to other community? Why do they need to sensationalise the news? Times Now just sucks.
Few questions ?
Do we need the television media to ask the opinion from people about Cauvery tribunal’s final verdict just after it being tabled?
Can common man comment on the document which contains 1000 pages with out even taking the look at it. Analysis comes only day after in the news paper.
Why do media need to have the SMS poll on sensitive issues like this. Surely the response is coming from biased sample.
Does Karnataka is entitle to get the major share of the natural resource like river because the origin is its territory ?
Why is Bangalore becoming such a intolerable place to live ?
Why do people spread rumors ?
Why target tamilians for cauvery verdict ?
What is the benefit of taking all tamil channels off the air ?
Why don’t people treat rivers as national resource ?
Why do news paper carry such a misleading headlines and trigger the fury of the people ?
Finally why do people give expert opinions when they lack the indepth knowledge?

While reading some facts, you realize why I did not think about it early. It is one of those Ah-Aha moments. Two peice of infomration belonging to this category.

Vedio games and Topology
The surface of a torus is topological space found in most of vedio games, where a vechicle (for example) goes off the right hand side of the screen only to reappear on the left, or off the top only to appear on the bottom.
The second one is what I always belived to be true and knew about.
Bias in news call in polls.
Many news program have call in polls. The results are usually showed later in the program. This typw of data collection is very inreliable because the information is coming from a biased sample. People who watch or listen to the news make only the small percentage of the population or that group. Only an even smaller percentage of people will call to offer their opinion and those who call more are likely to disagree with the question because people with strong feelings against an issue are likely to respond.

* of the year
.
It is that time of year again when every body declares the * of the year. * is a wild card and dosen’t represent a Star! One can fill any thing in the place of *, man, women, dog, etc. Every body tries to promote their brand ambassador as the face of 2006.
If the mode of selection is fool proof and done by great analyst (as claimed) then how come different group publish different lists ?

FM Radio
.
Prabhu writes in his blog about the fm radio in Bangalore..
Many new FM Radio stations have come on air in Bangalore in recent past. I believe this is the case in many other metros in India. Radio listeners will have many choices now. But I have found them wanting. The talk of the radio jockeys leaves lot to be desired. To listen to a good song I will have to bear senseless chattering of the hosts, ads lacking in creativity and many songs of not my liking. The most irritating is the lack of sense in the talks of the hosts. This is more so if two or more are conducting the show. And I can’t understand why a radio jockey should repeat a catch line of the radio station a hundred times every minute. It’s painful to ears to listen to same wordings again and again. Add to this the listeners interacting with the hosts and sending SMS. The hosts will have to keep repeating the numbers to dial in and message. All this makes me to avoid the FM radios particularly when I am traveling and switch on my iPod which is loaded with songs and podcasts of my preferences. I do agree there are shows which are worth listening but those are few and far between. I can enjoy songs with my iPod sans all things that are boring with the FM radio stations. I hope the quality of shows improves, given the powerful media that it is, with people at all levels of society listening to it, imagine how effective the FM radios would be in bringing about a useful change.
